Greetings from Minister Yamamoto on the Opening of the Event

We have received a message of greetings from Minister of State for Special Missions Ichita Yamamoto on the opening of the Okinawa Great Trade Fair Pre-Trade Fair.

Minister Yamamoto was unfortunately unable to attend the Pre-Trade Fair on the day it was held, but Senior Vice Minister Masazumi Gotoda was able to come and read a message from Minister Yamamoto.

The below are the contents of the message from Minister Yamamoto, which was read by Vice Minister Gotoda at the opening ceremony of the Okinawa Great Trade Fair Pre-Trade Fair.

I would like to offer a word of congratulations on the holding of the Okinawa Great Trade Fair Pre-Trade Fair.

I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations on the holding of the Okinawa Great Trade Fair Pre-Trade Fair, made possible by the efforts of the prefecture of Okinawa, the Okinawa Konwakai, and all of the other members involved.

The fact that companies from within the prefecture, outside the prefecture, and companies from overseas can assemble here in Okinawa, located in the center of Asia, and conduct negotiations on a global level, is an extremely important opportunity for everyone to experience the appeal of Okinawan products, and the convenience of Okinawa as a global logistics hub. I am hopeful that this Okinawa Great Trade Fair will be the stage from which a new form of logistics business will be transmitted to the world.

Okinawa is situated in the center of Asia, which is growing and developing at a substantial pace. It has substantial potential thanks to its geographical advantage, where it can become the center of the flow of people and materials. Okinawa is also blessed with a rich natural environment and a unique culture, giving it a wide variety of appealing regional resources as well. Moreover, with the opening of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University in September, a "foundation of knowledge" that will nurture the seeds of new businesses is rapidly being formed.

The Cabinet Office will utilize these advantages and potentials of Okinawa and continue to further advance various Okinawa promotion measures, such as the assembling of international logistics industries.

As a part of these efforts, we are planning Okinawa observation tours as early as the beginning of next month, to allow executives from pharmaceuticals companies in mainland Japan to actually experience the potential of Okinawa. Through these tours, we hope to form an intellectual industry cluster with the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University at its core, create opportunities that will lead to the development of pharmaceuticals, and even create opportunities to promote investment in Okinawa, as well as opportunities for the creation and promotion of new industries.

Through these efforts, as the frontrunner in Japan, Okinawa will become the model for 21st century growth. In addition to continuing to transmit the allures of Okinawa so that it becomes the driving force for the revitalization of the Japanese economy, we will continue to increase and improve these allures of Okinawa.

Lastly, I wish to once again offer my congratulations, and I pray that this Trade Fair will be a productive trade fair for all participants.

Thank you.
